Teller to vice president
Lagoy's career spans three decades

 Linda Lagoy
Fred Healey, president and CEO of Workers' Credit Union, congratulates
Linda Lagoy on her thirtieth anniversary with the credit union.

Fitchburg, MA (November 7, 2008) - The year Linda Lagoy of Fitchburg went to work in the banking industry, the top single was "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. The year was 1978 and she has survived quite well, celebrating her thirtieth anniversary with Workers' Credit Union.

Lagoy joined as a part-time teller the then Cleghorn Credit Union in Fitchburg, which merged with Workers' Credit Union in 1980, which quickly promoted her to head teller.  "Linda is a true asset to the credit union and is always willing to go the extra mile for our members," noted Fred Healey, president and CEO of Workers' Credit Union.

Lagoy now oversees seven branch offices as a regional vice president. Her original hiring manager, Frank Bellafiore, who also stayed on after the merger and is still with Workers' Credit Union today, said that the Long Island, New York native originally only wanted part-time work.

When asked how the industry has changed over her career, Lagoy noted that even though the credit union has grown so much, the philosophy remains the same. "We are here to serve our members and give back to our community. "

Workers' Credit Union launches
online savings account

For Immediate Release - Workers' Credit Union recently rolled out an online savings account that offers nationally-competitive interest rates.

"This is a first for us, offering a product that you can only get online," noted Fred Healey, president and CEO of Workers' Credit Union.  "Since the cost of providing the product and service is lower, we can offer a higher rate than a traditional savings account."

While there are several national internet banking companies, the Fitchburg-based credit union is the first locally to offer an exclusive online savings account option.

Healey said one of the reasons it decided to offer the product is the changing consumer behavior. "As more and more people get comfortable with online banking it was a natural extension for our website,  which allows users to look at their balances, transfer money and pay bills."

There are no fees to open an account and one can be opened online in minutes.  In addition, there are no penalties for withdrawals and funds can be easily transferred from other financial institutions.

The current rate is 3.10% with a minimum deposit of $500.  More information can be found at wcu.com
