Web-Enabled Mobile Phones

In order to access a wireless application from a cell phone, the cell phone has to be web enabled. A web-enabled cell phone typically has a built-in mini-browser, sometimes called a micro-browser, which is capable of loading a web page corresponding to a URL. You can log on by going to mobile.wcu.com. You don't have to include the http:// or https://. That's automatic and saves typing. You can also bookmark the address on the device to avoid having to enter it again later. Enter the same member number and password you use on PC Branch. They are exactly the same. If you change your PC Branch password, it changes for wireless access automatically.

Once you have a web-enabled cell phone, you need to invoke the mini-browser, and pick the option that allows you to enter a URL and then bookmark it. Some carriers also let you enter a bookmark from their web site, via their online services. This procedure varies for each type of cell phone , and is usually described in the cell phone manual. Please reference your carrier's web site for more specific information.

PDAs – Personal Digital Assistants

Access from Palm OS PDAs
Palm OS (operating system) powers a number of PDAs, primarily the Palm series, Sony Clie and the Handspring series.

In order to access a wireless application from a Palm OS PDA, the device has to have a wireless connection. For Palm Vx devices, you need to activate a wireless service from service providers such as EarthLink Wireless.

Alternatively, you can use a phone modem accessory supplied from Palm, Inc. to connect the Palm OS device with your mobile phone and dial out to an ISP.

Once your Palm OS device is connected wirelessly, you can access wireless applications from an online browser on the Palm OS device.

Using a Palm OS Browser
There are several browsers available for Palm OS devices, such as the AvantGo, which is available free of charge from the AvantGo website and works on the PalmVx. If using the AvantGo browser, tap the menu option and select Open Page. You can enter a URL from the resulting page. Bookmarking sites using the AvantGo browser has to be done from the AvantGo web site (avantgo.com/frontdoor/index.html). Contact your device manufacturer to find out what browsers are available for your specific device.

Access From PocketPC Device
Accessing wireless applications from PocketPC devices, such as a HP iPAQ or an Dell Pocket PC, is quite similar to using Internet Explorer on the PC. First, make sure you have activated a wireless service from a wireless Internet service provider, such as EarthLink Wireless. Once your connection is established, bring up the Internet browser and enter the URL mobile.wcu.com.

Two-Way Pager Devices
Pagers that have a built in web browser (like the Blackberry or HP) can be used for Mobile Banking. Certain pagers will not work with Mobile Banking such as traditional numeric and text pagers and SMS text messaging.

To access Mobile Banking on a RIM Blackberry Pager you must ensure that you have a browser, such as the Go.web browser, installed on your RIM Blackberry. If you are not sure if your RIM Blackberry has a browser installed, please check with your service provider. Once you verify that you have a browser, you may simply enter our URL in your browser – mobile.wcu.com.

Mobile Banking FAQs

What is the URL to access Mobile Banking with my mobile device?

The URL is https://mobile.wcu.com/.

I tried to access Mobile Banking, but I get a "page not found" error. What's the deal?

Make sure you didn't type "www" at the beginning of the URL. The URL is just https://mobile.wcu.com/. No "www" needed.

How much does it cost to use Mobile Banking?

Workers' does not charge any fees to use Mobile Banking! However, your wireless service provider may charge additional fees for internet access and / or for the bandwidth used. Contact your wireless service provider to get more details on the actual cost of using your device to access the internet.

I can't figure out how to access the internet with my phone. Can Workers' help me?

We can try! However, with so many different types of phones that support internet access, it's really hard for us to be able to walk you through the details. Your best option for help would be to consult the manual that came with your phone, or contact your wireless service provider for assistance.

Is it safe to access my accounts using this technology?

In a word, YES! Mobile Banking is brought to you in partnership with MShift, Inc (www.mshift.com), and allows access to your Workers' account(s) from any web-enabled mobile phone, Palm Handheld, Pocket PC Device, or RIM Blackberry Pager. Mobile Banking  requires the same secure login information that is used to login to Workers' Online Banking. Passwords are never stored at any stage. Your data is encrypted using the Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS) protocol, which provides the highest level of security available today.  Additionally, all data that passes between the wireless gateway, MShift’s servers, and Workers' web servers is encrypted using the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) layer. Mobile Banking has a built-in Session Time-Out after 5 minutes of user inactivity.  This prevents someone from picking up a Workers' member’s wireless device and accessing their accounts if they forget to logout from their previous session.

Troubleshooting Questions

What is the error message you are getting on your wireless device?

If the message is Service Not Available then this is a problem with the carrier network and not with Wireless PC Branch. This error may occur if the phone is out of range or if the carrier is experiencing temporary difficulties.

What type of wireless device and wireless Internet service are you using?

Get the carrier or wireless Internet service provider, make and model. This will help when you contact Workers' or your service provider. Examples for the various wireless devices:

  • Phone: Sprint PCS (Carrier) Samsung (Make) SPH-a400 (Model)
  • Palm: Handspring (Make) Visor Edge (Model) with Earthlink Wireless Modem (Wireless Internet Service Provider)
  • Pocket PC: HP (Make) iPAQ H3760 / H3765 (Model) with a Sprint PCS Wireless Web Modem (Wireless Internet Service Provider)
  • RIM Blackberry: RIM (Make) Blackberry 5810 (Model) with Go.web (Wireless Internet Service Provider)
