Fundamental Coverages in Most Homeowner’s Policies

Dwelling

Dwelling coverage pays to repair or replace your home if it’s damaged by a covered hazard. The “dwelling” is everything from the foundation to the ceiling and anything securely attached to it.

Other Structures

This coverage pays for damage to structures on your property not attached to the dwelling like a detached garage, workshop, privacy fence or gazebo. These are subject to the policy deductible.

Personal Property

Anything in your home that is not securely attached such as furniture, clothing, and paintings are considered “personal property”. Additional coverage may need to be considered for high-value items like jewelry, art, guns, and collections.

Additional Living Expenses

This coverage will pay for living expenses if you are forced to temporarily relocate while your home is under repair for damage caused by a covered peril.

Personal Liability

Personal Liability pays for claims resulting from a third party being injured on your property.

Medical Expense

This coverage pays for medical expenses for a third party on a per person basis for claims resulting from an accident caused by you, a family member or pet.

Optional Coverages

There are many optional coverages that can be added to your policy to provide additional protection. These include:

  • Scheduled Personal Property – additional coverage for property such as jewelry, gun collections, camera equipment, art and other collections.
  • Water Back-Up and Sump Overflow – coverage for damage caused by sewer backup or sump overflow.
  • Identity Theft/Fraud – pays for expenses incurred as a result of identity theft.
  • Mold – covers damage or liability caused by certain types of mold.

It’s important to discuss your needs with a Workers Insurance agent before purchasing homeowner’s insurance so they can help you determine what you need.
